Several story/content/marketing ideas caught my eye as interesting ways to add value and grow our community. I hope they get you thinking. As always I’d love your commentary and a quick share to your audience.
Super interesting guy with a powerful backstory and a wild recent medical episode running 100 miles. He’s hilarious and currently touring in Europe. Would love to see our community embrace him.
A hero product story. The seeming director cut that curiously isn’t on Patagonia’s page. Love this version.
The version Patagonia went with. Safer.
How-to’s based on a fan truth from your audience. Show you understand them and what they do with your product. Adds value for them.
I’m obsessed with the idea to have a trail running game app. I found this from 2 years ago. Literally found nothing else on the whole internet. So much I’d modify here like “Quit” absolutely needs to say “DNF” and this appears to be a paved path with giant rocks on it.
Who can create these things? Let’s talk. I want temple run or subway surfers but on a trail. I have so many other ideas and ways to monetize.
Communicate the essence of an apparel capsule without leaving the room. This is a whole vibe and it was shot 100% in the same spot.
Using celebrity and spontaneity to create a viral moment. Can a brand discreetly setup a moment like this and have the cameras rolling?
Communicating a different finish line feeling - the high after a group run. Haven’t seen anyone lean into this feeling before but it’s an addicting moment in the run crew experience.
A short film on the real world value of running. Also Lee is a gem.
Fan truths about running. Show you understand your audience. Highly shareable content. This could be any of us.
All for now. Here’s some inspirational advice to leave you with.
I met Dan when I lived in NYC - he’s hilarious. Going to see his London tour show on Sunday.
The best ad for the M10 isn't either of those videos - it's the long and detailed blog post that Colin Haley wrote about them: https://colinhaley.com/nugget-3-the-patagonia-m10-storm-pants/ Colin doesn't shill for gear all that often so when he does, it's taken seriously, and he has extraordinary credibility. Personally, for a gear piece that I might have to trust someday to help save my life (since we are talking about the alpine climbing space) I'm more motivated by a blog post like that than I am by an Instagram reel of somebody climbing wearing them.
