Ah I always saw the Elmo addition as a different play, but I'm probably wrong here:
I thought that Elmo was a way to remove the human element of criticism and comment. For example, if a person made statement "those are QC shoes" in the commercials or "be kind to yourself," you introduce the ability for the viewer to either identify or reject the character. I might hypothetically think I'm cooler than the person who made the QC mistake and reject the ad or I might hypothetically think I know what's best for me in my running journey and might reject the campaign.
I like that you guys mention that Elmo is an aligned representative with the cause!
